- Not notarized yet. macOS asks once before the first open.
The first open, in five seconds
macOS refuses to open an app it has not seen notarized, and the warning it shows looks worse than the situation is. Right-click YappYapp in your Applications folder, choose Open, then confirm. You do this once, ever. The DMG also ships a FIRST-OPEN file with the exact wording for your macOS version, and the setup guide walks through it next to every permission prompt.
What it needs
A Mac running macOS 14 or later. Apple Silicon feels instant; the whisper.cpp engine also runs on Intel. Disk space depends on the voice model you pick, from a few dozen megabytes up to a couple of gigabytes for Whisper large. Nothing else: no account, no connection once the model has downloaded, no subscription.
What you get
Talk. It types.
Press Option+Space, say the thing, and verified text lands exactly where your cursor is. If a paste cannot be confirmed, the app says so instead of pretending.
Runs on your Mac. Only.
Whisper and Parakeet run on-device. The runtime has no network entitlement, and a CI gate fails any build that tries to add one. Privacy enforced by tooling, not promises.
Your words, your spelling
Teach it your product names, clients, and acronyms once. The glossary corrects every transcript, in every language you work in.
Super fast mode
Keeps the mic warm with a ring buffer so your first word is never clipped. Off by default, because the orange dot stays on, and we tell you that upfront.
LLM cleanup, locally
An optional small language model removes your ums and adds punctuation in about a second. It runs on your machine and falls back to your exact words if it misbehaves.
Pixel pets with opinions
Fourteen pets level up as you dictate. Streaks, daily quests, hats. Your dragon requires ten thousand words and will remember if you stop showing up.
Every version, in the open
Release notes and older builds live on the releases page. Updates arrive through Sparkle, signed, with a visible off switch.
Nothing about this download is traced back to you. The privacy page says exactly what the app and this website do and do not collect.
